Vitamin E

Vitamin E is arguably the most prevalent vitamin ingredient in skin and hair products. And with good reason. The major ingredient in Vitamin E is Tocopherols which have powerful antioxidant benefits, which allow Vitamin E to protect the strand’s cuticles from damage (UV rays and environmental pollutants, chemical treatments), so that your locks can retain moisture and strength.

Vitamin E oil can improve dry hair and/or dry scalp, infusing both with moisture and locking it in, so that the softness and hydration are long-lasting.

Silk protein

You’ve probably heard that our hair is mostly made up of a protein known as keratin, which provides them with strength, protection, and structure. Because keratin is broken down with chemical treatments and heat, there’s been a big hair movement in the past few years to rebuild that keratin by adding, well, more keratin. But here’s the problem: the heat or chemical treatments that are used during these treatments can cause damage and dryness.

This is where Silk Protein comes into play. It can strengthen and reinforce locks, thanks to its content of cysteine, one of the main amino acids needed to produce keratin.

And because silk proteins possess an insane ability to retain water, they infuse the hair with moisture and repair damage. It’s a one-two punch: hydration and strengthening

Studies have shown the effect of hydrolyzed Silk Protein’s ability to soften strands and even boost hair growth thanks to its molecular size. Silk proteins with a higher molecular weight exhibit film forming properties, making them excellent additions to hair care, especially for dry or damaged hair, because they can increase moisture retention at the hair surface (like a conditioning, protective Saran Wrap). The combination we use—hydrolyzed Silk Proteins that contain free silk amino acids (small molecules) plus silk oligopeptides (bigger)—deeply moisturizes the hair from within, improving the texture of dry and damaged hair and preventing breakage. Even in low humidity (read: parched, dry air) this breed of Silk Protein possesses a high degree of water absorption, meaning they suck in moisture and lock it into your locks to keep them hydrated. How powerful is its ability to retain water? Silk is credited with the ability to retain 10,000 times its weight in water, resulting in optimum conditioning and increased strength.

Avocado Oil

Holy guacamole! Popular fruit for veggies

Avocado may well be one of the very best things you can put in—and on—your body. Of course, that includes your hair.

Avocado Oil is cold pressed from the entire avocado, which is rich in fat and can contain up to 30% oil. It consists of 71% monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), 13% polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), and is loaded with oleic acid.

Avocado Oil’s fatty acids provide many essential nutrients that improve hair health and lead to a reduction in breakage and split ends

If you notice less hairs on your pillow and your hairbrush, that’s the fatty acids at work, as one of their main superpowers is to help reduce shedding.

Because not all fats are created equal, Avocado Oil is one of the few oils that is able to deeply penetrate the hair shaft instead of only sitting on top of it thanks to its MUFA. So while other fats are great for coating each hair, Avocado Oil can actually strengthen the hair shaft from the inside to help prevent damage and make hair more flexible. And while its deeply moisturizing for the scalp and hair, it won’t clog pores or make hair look flat or greasy.

It also has UV absorption properties, helping keep harmful UV rays at bay. That’s a plus if you color your hair and want to keep it from fading. Its protective qualities also protect strands when using hot tools like blow dryers and irons, or after chemical treatments.

CASTOR OIL

Castor Oil has natural antibacterial and antifungal properties and is high in Vitamin E, minerals, proteins, and omega -6 and -9 beneficial fatty acids. It actually has a whopping 18 fatty acids in total. But what makes it super beneficial for your mane is its unusually high levels of ricinoleic acid (it’s 90% of its nutritional content!). If you’ve never heard of ricinoleic acid, here’s what you need to know.

First, ricinoleic acid helps increase circulation to the scalp and improves hair growth. It nourishes the hair roots so that hair grows stronger, and balances scalp pH, which keeps the scalp functioning at its ideal oil levels. It can even undo some of the damage of harsh chemical treatments. It prevents infections such as folliculitis, a condition that causes inflammation of the hair follicles (and ultimately hair fallout).

Castor Oil fills in the damaged gaps of keratin in the hair shaft, increasing elasticity and strength so that hair’s less prone to splitting and breakage.

Strands are left moisturized, smooth, less frizzy and with fewer split ends. The protective layer deposited by the fatty acids not only protects from sun damage and color fading, but they make your strands more light-reflective, so they look glossy and shiny.

Castor Oil had a significant increase in luster, making the strands appear shinier and more light-reflective.

Hydrolyzed wheat oil

Present in all civilizations, Wheat has been cultivated for more than 10,000 years and has been at the heart of many beliefs and legends. The symbol of fertility, prosperity and renewal, Wheat has been considered as a gift from God, dropped on earth. In the time of the Egyptian Pharaohs, Wheat was the symbol of Osiris, also called “the eternal beauty”.

Wheat Oil is naturally rich in phytoceramides, meaning ceramides from plants. Ceramides are a type of naturally occurring lipid found in high concentrations in the epidermis, the skin’s outer layer. They help hold skin cells together and form a protective layer that keeps moisture in and protects the skin against environmental aggressors.

Wheat Oil’s phytoceramides and skin’s ceramides have a similar structure. Hence, phytoceramides are optimal to mimic natural ceramides and to replenish a depleted skin barrier and to prevent dehydration.
